SHERWOOD DRIVE RESIDENCE

"We only have four more years..."

This was the Client's statement when initial discussions began on a rear landscape design for their new (to them) residence in the historic Sherwood neighborhood of Knoxville, TN.  The program included a pool, spa, basketball court, outdoor kitchen, fire pit and covered seating.  With a full slate of uses, the rear landscape is divided into various zones of use - pool, play and relaxation.  The primary zones between pool and basketball court are divided by an outdoor kitchen pavilion and an allee of Ginkgo trees set in pea gravel.  The pool features a tanning shelf facing south and a raised spa that spills into the pool for constant ambient sound.  A fire pit and stone bench seating terminates the pool axis.  A generous patio outside the living room spills onto the pool deck with a cozy seating nook beside an impressive stone fireplace to the side.

Special attention was given to the color scheme of the rear landscape with the pool and basketball court color resembling each other.

Evergreen plantings of boxwoods, magnolias and hollies form the structure of the garden with pops of color / seasonal interest being provided by various hydrangeas, Russian sage and warm season grasses.
