AMERICAN CHESTNUT FOUNDATION RAIN GARDEN
The American Chestnut Foundation in Meadowview, VA wanted to implement an alternative stormwater measure as an educational opportunity for guests and to further emphasize their work in developing a blight-resistant chestnut tree variety. The rain garden was prominently situated along the entrance walk to the building and treats a little over 1/4 of the impervious roof area of the building. Predominantly native plants were incorporated into the rain garden to capture and cleanse rainwater while promoting on-site infiltration. The plantings were arranged to have a dynamic color and texture show throughout the different growing seasons.
Designed and implemented in collaboration with, and from grant funding secured by, the Upper Tennessee River Roundtable.
Completed while employed with Graham Landscape Architecture.
